Florida food is overall disappointing. Up around NYC seems to be the only spot with decent Chinese on the east coast.
Having said that, New China was a pleasant surprise having been let down by several other spots on the St. Pete Peninsula. Prompt service as to be expected by a good take out spot, their pork fried rice and General Tso's chicken was an excellent dinner, albeit probably not the healthiest choice.
First impressions are the law of primacy and New China has earned another visit by these accounts. -

(I see I reviewed this place before and I must have accidentally called the wrong number - I usually order from a good Chinese restaurant. Not this one.)
I placed an order at 6:50pm. The person who answered the phone could not understand my simple phone number. I had to repeat it 4 times. She spoke perfect English and our phone connection was clear. She seemed distracted or confused.
I placed my order and gave her my card number. She didn't ask me to repeat it. Strange, because she is obviously not good at writing down numbers.
An hour and a half later, I called and asked where my order was. First, they asked if I paid cash. I said no. Then suddenly "your card was declined!" is the reason. Ok, "why did nobody call me to tell me? Why was I kept waiting for an hour and a half thinking you were making my order?" I asked.
She repeated at least 6 times, "your card was declined, we ran it a bunch of times." I repeated my question, WHY did nobody call me?
Now, her story is that they did try to call me and I didn't answer. She repeated this over and over and over, talking over me. I confirmed that NO, no-one called me (notice how her story kept progressing and building, the more I asked). She then yelled, "LOOK AT YOUR PHONE LADY! LOOK AT YOUR PHONE! WE CALLED YOU!"
I told her, through her screams, that she was lying, and I hung up.
I checked my phone.
There are ZERO missed calls from New China.
This was insanity. They were busy, they didn't know hoand they were overwhelmed. They most likely forgot the order. They didn't even check my name or number to confirm what order I was asking about.
My card was not declined. There is enough in there to buy everybody on my block some Chinese food.
The unqualified person who took my card number wrote it down wrong, and they gave up/lost the order/forgot to address the issue and then blamed it on me.
This was a flat-out lying scheme to get out of apologizing for a HUGE screw-up. She knows she's wrong, and she knows she's lying about it.
If it seems I'm in a bad mood, it's because I've been waiting 2 hours for food that was never going to arrive. I'm hungry and angry.
Please learn how to do some of the basic jobs, and the bigger ones won't be so difficult for you. -

For a takeout Chinese order, food was what we expected and good! Prepare time was quick, and food was hot and seemed fresh. We got sesame chicken (good but sauce was a little thick), beef and broccoli, crab rangoon (solid), and hot and sour soup. All portion sizes were good for the price. Easy dinner for a Sunday night, we would go back!

For a hole in the wall American style Chinese restaurant, it's totally solid. Definitely my favorite in the area. The place is family owned and they are always super sweet and nice. Prices are amazingly inexpensive and portions are considerable. I've gotten many items from the menu and haven't had anything that disappointed.

This was perhaps the WORST Chinese food I have ever had. We ordered a PuPu platter and seafood delight. Just about all of the chicken wings, egg roll, chicken on a stick, etc, etc was overcooked to the point it was stringy and inedible.
The seafood delight was not in the least delightful but mediocre at the very best. When I told the worker who was walking by how awful everything was, all she could say was sorry.
This was $26 spent on food that could make you hate chinese forever. Doesn't even deserve 1 star.
